APOYO INTERNACIONAL PARA EL HOTEL BAUEN
Al Presidente de Argentina, Néstor Kirchner:
La lucha de los trabajadores argentinos por la recuperación de fábricas y empresas abandonadas por sus patrones se ha convertido en todo el mundo en un modelo inspirador y en un importante símbolo de que otro mundo es posible.
El Bauen Hotel es un ejemplo concreto. Su futuro e importancia fueron reconocidos recientemente por el gobierno de Venezuela, con un acuerdo entre el Ministerio de Turismo, el Ministerio Nacional de Economía Popular y el Bauen para trabajar juntos en el desarrollo de un proyecto de cooperación mutua de turismo. En el Bauen hay 120 hombres y mujeres que todos los días están demostrando cómo construir alternativas autogestivas para crear trabajo, dignidad y justicia allí donde el neoliberalismo ha revelado su cruel fracaso.
Luego de una quiebra fraudulenta y de esperar un año y medio a que se allanaran los caminos legales, ellos decidieron tomar sus destinos en sus propias manos y construyeron así lo que podemos ver hoy: un hotel funcionando a pleno, con cafetería, librería y salas culturales, pero también con espacios que ceden a organizaciones sociales para reuniones, conferencias y asambleas.
Si se quiere lucir orgulloso, en pleno centro de Buenos Aires, a un símbolo del movimiento, al Bauen Hotel solo hay que dejarlo funcionar tal cual lo planificaron sus trabajadores, eficiente y solidariamente.
Pero si se quiere atacar todo lo que este movimiento de fábricas y empresas recuperadas por sus trabajadores representa, el Bauen Hotel se convierte en un blanco.
En estos últimos meses, el Bauen Hotel ha sufrido varios intentos de clausura. Ahora, algunos legisladores de la ciudad de Buenos Aires pretenden sancionar una norma para destruir lo que la cooperativa de trabajadores ha creado.
Nosotros, los abajo firmantes, llamamos por lo tanto al gobierno argentino y a los legisladores a actuar de forma inmediata, llevando a cabo las siguientes medidas:
1. Dejar de lado cualquier amenaza de desalojo o clausura del Bauen Hotel, tanto ahora como en el futuro.
2. Aprobar una ley de expropiación definitiva a favor de la Cooperativa de Trabajo B.A.U.E.N. (Buenos Aires Una Empresa Nacional).
Los movimientos sociales de todo el mundo están observando la lucha de los trabajadores del Bauen Hotel con gran interés y la apoyan fervientemente. Esta experiencia extraordinariamente exitosa no debe ser ni destruida ni amenazada: ¡debe ser celebrada, apoyada y difundida!

The struggle of Argentinian workers to recover factories and companies abandoned by their owners has become an inspiring model worldwide, and an important symbol that another world is possible. The Bauen Hotel is a concrete example. Its future and significance were recently recognized by the government of Venezuela, with an agreement signed with the Ministry of Tourism and the National Ministry of Popular Economy to work together in the development of a cooperative tourism venture. At the Bauen Hotel there are 120 men and women who every day demonstrate how to build self-managed alternatives that create jobs, dignity and justice where neoliberalism has resulted in devastating failure.
Following a fraudulent bankruptcy and after exhausting all legal paths for a year and a half, they decided to take their futures into their own hands and they built what we can see today: a fully functioning hotel with a restaurant, bookstore and cultural galleries, along with spaces that they lend to social organizations for meetings, conferences and assemblies. If you want to demonstrate your pride in a symbol of the movement right in the centre of Buenos Aires, all you have to do is let the Bauen Hotel continue to operate the way its workers, with efficiency and solidarity, have planned it.
But if you want to attack everything that this movement of recovered factories and companies represents, Hotel Bauen is a target.
Over the last few months, Hotel Bauen has been through various attempts to close it down. Now, some legislators in the city of Buenos Aires want to introduce a regulation that will destroy what the workers’ cooperative has achieved. We, the undersigned, call on the Argentinian government and its legislators to act immediately to carry out the following measures:
1. Withdraw all threats of eviction or closure from the Bauen Hotel both now and in the future.
2. Pass a law of definitive expropriation in favour of the Workplace Cooperative B.A.U.E.N. (Buenos Aires a National Company, from the Spanish initials).
Social movements around the world are watching the struggle of the Bauen Hotel workers with great interest and passionate support. This highly successful alternative should not be destroyed or threatened: it should be celebrated, supported, and shared with others!
